Winemaking

Fruit was gently picked and sent straight to press. It underwent a cool, slow fermentation in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation or oak aging, allowing for fresh fruit and floral characters, as well as crisp acidity to be highlighted in the wine.

Vintage

The 2020 season will be remembered for factors beyond the typical harvest season. It was a warm, dry winter, with rain and cooler weather not arriving until the end of March. While the mild spring season brought us a great early start, our winery working conditions had extensive safety protocols put into place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Summer brought cool mornings and warm days, but harvest was interrupted by wildfires across California. The white wine harvest started in early August. Despite the unprecedented conditions, the wines are showing excellent development in cellar, reflecting a fine vintage year. Our winemakers remain optimistic and very complimentary of the high quality achieved from this unparalleled vintage.

Vineyard

Fruit for this delicately styled Pinot Gris comes from a well-established Carneros ranch in the cool southernmost growing region in Napa Valley. Shallow clay loam soils join with marine-influences from San Pablo and San Francisco Bays to keep temperatures moderate, allowing fruit to evolve with balanced acidity and flavors.
