Tasting Notes

The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet is full and rich with a ruby red garnet color accompanied by fragrant aromas and bright flavors of redcurrant, black raspberry, dark cherry, cassis, and red berry compote. Delicate floral violet notes interweave with nuances of vanilla crème and caramel from the well-integrated oak aging. Full-bodied and balanced with fresh mouthwatering acidity and silky, round tannins. Incredibly approachable and a true crowd-pleasing Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon. The wine finishes with length, depth, and lovely concentration.

Winemaking

The grapes for our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were picked in the cool mornings, quickly brought to the winery and placed in tanks for a two-day cold soak designed to extract color and flavor from the grapes. After fermentation, the young wines were aged for 18 months in a combination of French, Hungarian and American oak barrels. Once ready, the barrels are carefully evaluated and only those reflecting the true hallmarks of the Napa Valley are selected for the final Napa Valley blend.

Vintage

Ample winter rains provided welcome saturation for the soils, followed by a cool Spring which delayed flowering and fruit set. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. Continued mild temperatures extended the growing season, preserving freshness and finesse in the wines while teasing out beautiful color, silkiness, and balance in the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon reigns king in the Napa Valley and the appellation excels in producing outstanding expressions of this admired varietal. Napa Valley offers an ideal combination of topography, geology and climate that enables this varietal to reach optimum ripeness, balance, and finesse. For this vintage, grapes were sourced primarily from traditional vineyards such as Bear Flats Ranch and BV Ranch 12 (Calistoga), Yountville Ranch, as well as Clairmore Vineyard and Petersen Ranch (Diamond Mountain). The Calistoga appellation, our winery home, is one of the warmest areas in the valley but has extreme diurnal shifts, allowing the grapes to enjoy cool nights which maintain excellent acidity.
