A Sterling classic, and favorite wine by many, the 2020 Malvasia Bianca leaps from the glass with floral aromas of orange blossom and honeysuckle. Tropical fruit notes appear with lychee and guava most apparent. More rounded aromas of Golden Delicious apple, apricot, and honeycomb come next and help to create a wonderfully layered experience. Exotic spice notes intertwine with candied ginger, and honey notes to create a complex flavor that is hard to replicate. Mouth-watering acidity balances nicely with the off-dry sweetness, culminating in an experience best enjoyed chilled. The perfect pairing for Thai cuisine, or any spicy food that is not too sweet. Enjoy immediately to take advantage of the fresh, tropical fruit flavors.

Grapes are sent directly to press, and the resulting juice is cooled and allowed to settle before racking to stainless fermentation tanks. A long, slow fermentation preserves the delicate nature of the fruit, and fermentation is arrested to provide a refreshing off-dry wine with lower alcohol and a fuller mouthfeel.
The 2020 season will be remembered for factors beyond the typical harvest season. It was a warm, dry winter, with rain and cooler weather not arriving until the end of March. While the mild spring season brought us a great early start, our winery working conditions had extensive safety protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Summer brought cool mornings and warm days, but then harvest was interrupted by wildfires across California. The white wine harvest started in early August. The wines are showing excellent development in cellar, reflecting the fine vintage year. Our winemakers remain optimistic and very complimentary of the high quality achieved from this unprecedented vintage.
Malvasia Bianca is grown in a warmer region in northern San Joaquin Valley. With consistent daytime heat, the varietal’s tree fruit character develops fully, while cooling breezes help maintain a solid acid backbone, emphasizing the intriguing spicy-floral elements.
